A charter flight with 155 refugees from Afghanistan has ended up in Berlin – more than half are particularly at risk. Criticism came from the CDU.
Germany has again taken up endangered people from Afghanistan. A Pakistan charter plane landed in Berlin with 155 Afghans, as the Federal Ministry of the Interior announced on request. A spokesman said more than half of them come to the Federal Republic for particularly endangered people from Afghanistan.
The other passengers had entered Germany via other entrance programs, it said – the local worker procedure, the human rights list and the bridging program.
CDU politician Armin Schuster: “Immediately required stop”
The Union criticized the recording. Union parliamentary managing director Thorsten Frei (CDU) criticized in the “Bild” that Germany had to deport Afghans to their homeland instead of bringing to Germany. Saxony’s Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU) told the newspaper: “We countries asked for the immediate stop of the entrance programs.”
SPD parliamentary group vice Dirk Wiese defended the resumption of the charter flights for Afghans to Germany. In the broadcaster World TV, he recalled that many of the Afghans who had now traveled to Germany had worked for Germany. “They worked for our team in Afghanistan,” he said. “We are responsible for those who have worked for the Bundeswehr on site and let these local forces down, I think that is the wrong way.”
Germany has taken up more than 48,000 people from Afghanistan
According to Afghanistan, Germany, according to Afghanistan, recorded more than 48,000 Afghans in August 2021, including almost 36,000 people, who were classified as “particularly endangered” by the federal government. In the weeks before the Bundestag election, the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) had canceled two charter flights at short notice – officially due to logistical problems. The suspicion had become loud that this could have had to do with the upcoming election.
The spokesman for the Interior Ministry pointed out on Tuesday that there could be many reasons for such shifts – such as capacities at the airport in Islamabad as well as the landflugports in Germany, capacities for intermediate accommodation before distribution to the federal states or the provision of charter aircraft.
