Trust between the nuclear powers of Russia and the USA has been broken for years. That is why the diplomatic relationships cooked on a back burner, the big messages were almost empty.
The United States and Russia also speak about normalizing the work of its messages in the other country. Diplomats of both countries came together for advice on this question in Istanbul, as the state Russian news agency reported TASS.
The location of the non-public meeting was therefore the residence of the US general consul in the Turkish metropolis. The US State Department said that the conversation was not about war in Ukraine.
The diplomatic relationships between the large nuclear powers USA and Russia have deteriorated by Moscow in 2014 since the annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula. Since then, the mutual designation of diplomats, closures of consulates and the confiscation of embassy have restricted the work ability of the representations. US President Donald Trump is now looking for contact with Russia again.
Extensions for the influence of voting and poisoning
At the end of 2016, under President Barack Obama, the United States referred 35 Moscow diplomats in the country because of the attempted Russian influence on the US elections. In 2017, Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin forced the US representatives in Russia to reduce 755 employees.
In 2018, the United States excluded the Russian Consulate General in Seattle and showed 60 diplomats. That was the reaction to the poison attack on the Russian ex-agent Sergei Skripal in Great Britain. Moscow reacted mirror image with the designation of 60 US representatives. Further instructions from Russian diplomats from the USA followed in 2022 and 2023 due to the war of aggression on Ukraine.
