Baerbock to Trump and Selenskyj: “New time of nefarlessness has started”

Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock demands rapid political answers for more security in Europe given the escalation between the USA and Ukraine. “We have to act quickly, European and national,” said the Greens politician in Berlin. “We cannot wait until the formation of a new federal government, because the situation is serious. Germany has to take leadership on this historical path.” In the weeks of the transition, all democratic parties should do this in the closest coordination between the acting and future federal government.

Among other things, Baerbock campaigned for a fundamental reform of the debt brake. Another special fund that is currently being discussed is the worse variant. “It does not help Ukraine and we cannot use it for all areas that are important for our defense.” This affects measures against threats in the cyber space.

The minister said after the scandal between US President Donald Trump and the Ukrainian head of state Wolodymyr Selenskyj in the White House: “A new time of nefarlessness has started.” The Europeans would have to stand up for international law.

“It is therefore clear to us that we are rock festival at the side of the sovereign and free Ukraine.” Baerbock warned that nobody should be wrong in the enemy. “He sits alone in the Kremlin, not in Kiev or Brussels. We can never accept a perpetrator-victim reversal.”

Trump had threatened to let Ukraine down in the fight against Russia if there was no agreement with Russia. He covered Selenskyj with severe allegations in front of running cameras.
