In the federal government, the SPD must clear the government issue. Mayor Tschentscher continues to do his hat in Hamburg – despite losses in the choice of citizens. The day after, it continues.
After the SPD’s election in the Citizenship Election in Hamburg, everything has to be continued on the Elbe to continue the red-green coalition. According to the still simplified counting of the second votes, the Social Democrats achieved their historically secondary -talent result in the Hanseatic city with 33.5 percent. However, they clearly sat down from the CDU and the Greens, who exchanged places two and three and therefore only came to 19.8 or 18.5 percent.
Mayor Peter Tschentscher from the SPD now wants to approach the Greens of the second mayor Katharina Fegebank in order to talk about a new edition of the coalition, but then also talk to the CDU with top candidate Dennis Thering. The SPD leaves the election result open both options. Tschentscher has shown a preference for a continuation of the red-green alliance, which has been ruling since 2015. The Greens also want to continue with the SPD in the Senate.
Five parties in the citizens – further counts on Monday
As before, five parties are represented in the new citizens. According to the still preliminary figures, the left increased to 11.2 percent (2020: 9.1 percent), the AfD from 5.3 to 7.5 percent.
The FDP failed with 2.3 percent (2020: 4.97) as in 2020 at the five percent hurdle-even clearer this time. With 1.8 percent, the BSW also clearly missed the move into a first West German state parliament. The Volt European Charger passed both – but only came to 3.3 percent.
Regular count only on Monday
Hamburg’s right to vote is considered relatively complex. Each voter can hand over up to ten votes-five each on the state list ballot and the constituency list selection list. This system also makes the counting more difficult.
After the preliminary result from the election day, which has a simplified count of count, it is counted again today. This is particularly exciting for the politicians who have competed, since it will also be more noticeable who gets a seat in the citizens. The state election manager wants to announce the preliminary result in the evening. The election result should finally be determined after examination by the state election committee on March 19.
The Hamburg top candidates first travel to Berlin to the meetings of the bodies of the federal parties to maneuver criticism, strategy consultations and press conferences. In the evening, after state elections, bodies of the state parties come together for consultations.
Around 1.3 million Hamburgers were entitled to vote
A total of around 1.3 million Hamburgers aged 16 and over were entitled to vote. The state parliament regularly has 121 seats, but the number can increase due to overhang and equalization mandates as well as successful individual applicants.
According to the state election manager, the turnout was 67.7 percent – after 63.0 percent five years ago. Since initially only the voices of the state lists were counted on the parties, something can change in the distribution of seats. It is only after the counting of the constituency lists that started on Monday morning does it become clear whether there will be overhang and compensation mandates.
