Macron and Strander for one -month ceasefire in Ukraine

What’s next after the Ukraine summit in London? The main topic remains upgrading – on several levels. Great Britain and France take the lead for the peace plan.

A few days before a EU special summit, British Prime Minister Keir Strander and French President Emmanuel Macron propose a one-month ceasefire in Ukraine as a step to a possible peace agreement. Your peace plan is the first de -escalation measure to provide for a “ceasefire in the air, at sea and in the area of the energy infrastructure”, as Macron said of the French newspaper “Le Figaro”. Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj emphasized his great appreciation for the help of the United States in the war against Russia after the scandal in the White House.

At the EU special meeting on Thursday in Brussels, to which Selenskyj is also invited, among other things, the drastic change of course of the United States in Ukraine policy and a plan for the recovery of Europe. Western heads of state and government as well as the leaders from EU and NATO in London had already met a Ukraine summit on Sunday. One result of the summit was that Great Britain, France and a few other countries develop a peace plan for a ceasefire in Ukraine, which is then to be discussed with the USA.

Ukraine has been defending itself for three years with western support against a war of aggression ordered by the Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Coalition of the willing” planned

In the ceasefire proposed by Macron and Strandmer, the floor fights on the front in Eastern Ukraine would apparently not be affected. According to Macron, the advantage of such a concept is that violations of such a limited ceasefire are easier to check. One should not forget that the front line currently corresponds to the distance between Paris and Budapest.

Such an ceasefire should create space for diplomatic solutions and lay the basis for negotiations. Macron warned peace in Ukraine, but not at all costs. He emphasized that security guarantees were essential. Strander had announced to develop “a coalition of the willing” to defend an agreement in Ukraine.

In the interview, Macron makes it clear that the plan, proposed at the London Ukraine summit, to use European troops on Ukrainian soil, is only under question if the negotiations have been successful and there is a stable ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. In a first phase like the proposed one -month ceasefire, no soldiers would be sent.

Selenskyj: There was no day without gratitude for US help

Selenskyj expressed his great appreciation for the help of the USA. “Of course we know about the importance of America, and we are grateful for all the support we received from the United States,” said Selenskyj in his video message published in London on the night after the summit. He added: “There was no day when we felt no gratitude.”

During the scandal on Friday in the White House, Trump and his Vice JD Vance Selenskyj in the Oval Office had covered serious allegations and accused him of a lack of gratitude, among other things. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Selenskyj should find a way to restore his relationship with Trump. That is important for the future. Selenskyj had always thanked the United States for their help in recent years, but also after the scandal.

Meanwhile, Selenskyj was ready to sign a controversial agreement on raw materials with the USA. “No matter what happened, our politics is to stay constructive,” said Selenskyj in the evening of the British “BBC”. “If we were ready to sign the mineral deal, we will remain ready,” he said according to the translation of the station.

The planned signing of the agreement had been canceled after the scandal. US Finance Minister Scott Bessent then stated on Sunday that the agreement was for the time being off the table. Selenskyj, on the other hand, said the transmission of the broadcaster: “The agreement is on the table and is signed when the parties are ready.”

Leyen: “We urgently need to upgrade Europe”

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wants to present a comprehensive plan for the recovery of Europe at the special summit on Thursday. “We urgently need to upgrade Europe,” said von der Leyen after the Ukraine summit in London.

The EU countries face the challenge of having to significantly increase their defense spending in view of the world situation. The question of financing is open because the additional investment requirement is estimated at around 500 billion euros – and some member countries are already highly indebted.

The Leyen said that Ukraine, with the help of the allied countries, basically had to be transformed into a steel porcupine that was indispensable for potential invaders. “And of course security guarantees are of the utmost importance for Ukraine. But we need extensive security guarantees,” said the Commission President. Ukraine must be brought into a position of strength economically and militarily.

Medwedew: Russophober anti-trump circle in London

Former Russian President Dmitri Medvedev criticized the London summit. “The Russophobic anti-trump circle has gathered in London in order to swear the Nazi-Nobodys in Kiev,” wrote Medvedev, who is now Vice Chair of the National Security Council of Russia, on the platform X. “It is a shameful sight, worse than the verbal diarrhea in the oval office.”

The Russian military started again drone swarms on Sunday evening in Ukraine. According to Ukrainian media reports and, according to the air defense, the drone associations were spotted over various parts of the country. The Russian military has recently started using numerous so-called bait drones. These aircraft fly without explosive devices, just to overload the Ukrainian air defense and force valuable ammunition to waste.
