The threat stood in the room for a long time, now Donald Trump is serious. Meanwhile, he continues his attacks against Wolodymyr Selenskyj with undiminished hardness.
U.S. President Donald Trump exposed to all military aid for Ukraine after his dispute with Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj. Trump “made it clear that his focus was on peace”, the White House of the German Press Agency in Washington said and confirmed the suspension of the aids.
“This is not a permanent termination of help, it is a break,” the US television broadcaster Fox News quotes a Trump government official on Monday (local time). This also confirms the pause of all future military aids and refers to two US officials who took a position on the condition of anonymity.
According to the “New York Times”, the support should only be resumed when Trump finds that Ukraine commit itself to negotiations for peace with Russia. The newspaper also relies on a high -ranking government official. There was initially no official statement by the government. The break will take until Trump finds that the Ukrainian leadership shows good will to peace, report, report and Fox News.
The news agency Reuters quotes an official of the White House that did not want to be named on Monday evening (local time): “The president has made it clear that he is about peace. We need partners who are also committed to this goal. We are pausing and checking our help to ensure that they contribute to a solution.” He confirmed previous media reports. The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj’s Ukrainian President did not immediately respond to a request from Reuters after a statement.
Trump had already questioned the Ukraine aid during the election campaign and openly threatened to withdraw any support from the United States on Friday after the dispute with Selenskyj in the Oval Office.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump continued his verbal attacks against the Ukrainian head of state Wolodymyr Selenskyj on Monday. Trump wrote about Selenskyj in his online service Truth: “This type does not want peace as long as he has the backing of America.”
Trump quoted a report that Selenskyj said that an end to the Ukraine War was still far away. “This is the worst explanation that the Selenskyj could have submitted, and America will no longer put up with it,” commented the US President.
Donald Trump about European heads of government: “What do they think?”
On Friday there was a scandal of historical dimensions during the visit to Selenskyjs in the White House. Trump and his deputy JD Vance attacked the Ukrainian President in front of running cameras in the Oval Office. In the loud battle of the word, they accused Selenskyj lack of gratitude for US military aid and disrespect. Trump also threatened to end the US support if Selenskyj should not agree with a “deal” with Russia.
The step would have dramatic consequences for the country attacked by Russia: Under Trump’s predecessor Joe Biden, the United States were the most important supporter and arms supplier of Ukraine. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Biden’s government has provided more than $ 65 billion (a good 62 billion euros) on military aid for Kiev alone.
On Monday, Trump also criticized the European heads of state and government, who had met the day before with the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in London for a support summit for Ukraine.
With regard to the efforts to end the Ukraine War, the US President wrote that the European states of the state had “said circular route that they could not do the job without the United States”. However, this is “probably not a great statement” to demonstrate “strength towards Russia”. “What do they think?” added Trump.
Trump later tightened his attacks against Selenskyj in front of journalists in the White House. The US President said that Selenskyj “won’t be there for long” if there was no ceasefire. “You wouldn’t listen long on such a person,” said Trump. “Because I believe that Russia strives for an agreement. And I believe that the Ukrainian people want an agreement”. Selenskyj also has to “appreciate more” the billion dollar military aid, with which Washington Kiev supported Kiev in the fight against Russia, “said Trump.
Raw material agreements with Ukraine not off the table
On the raw material agreement with Ukraine, which was not signed as planned as planned, Trump said that this agreement was not off the table. With a view to the possibility that the United States could now hire military aid for Ukraine, he said to journalists: “I have not yet spoken about that. (…) We’ll see what happens.”
The national security advisor of the USA, Mike Waltz, called for an apology from Selenskyj. “What we have to hear from President Selenskyj is that he regrets what happened,” Waltz told Fox news. Waltz also rejected hints from the German CDU leader and likely upcoming Chancellor Friedrich Merz, according to which Trump and Vance had deliberately escalated the conversation. “That wasn’t a trap,” said Waltz.
Merz had previously suspected that the scandal in the White House had been specifically brought about from the US side. “In my opinion, it was not a spontaneous reaction to interventions by Selenskyj, but obviously an escalation in this encounter in the Oval Office,” said Merz on Monday in Berlin.
