The United States suspended military aid for Ukraine. As expected, this is well received in Moscow.
Russia was pleased with reports on the suspension of US military aid for Ukraine. “The details remain waiting, but if it is true, it is a decision that the Kiev regime can actually move in the direction of a peace process,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow from the Russian news agency Interfax.
Russia had repeatedly accused the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj of having no interest in peace negotiations and preferring to continue the war. US President Donald Trump had recently adopted the Russian argument for the horror of other western countries. Selenskyj, on the other hand, repeatedly emphasized that he wanted to end the war.
The Trump government will initially hire the US military aid for the Ukraine attacked by Russia for more than three years. Trump “made it clear that his focus was on peace,” said the White House in Washington.
Russia hopes for the end of the US sanctions
Russia and the United States are negotiating an end to the Moscow attack war against Ukraine and a normalization of their relationships, which have been tensioned for years. Peskow said that the US sanctions against Russia should also fall for restoring the relationship.
“We think they are illegal,” said Peskow about the sanctions, which were already introduced under the first presidency of Trump and then massively expanded and tightened in the course of the Russian attack war.
Russia recently proposed a resumption of air traffic with the United States. Both had blocked their airspace for machines on the other side in the course of the war. Above all, Moscow also hopes for an end to sanctions in the financial sector.
Peskov once again critically commented on discussion in the EU, frozen Russian state assets, which is mainly stored in Belgium, to confiscate and to be paid for as help for Ukraine. The Kremlin spokesman warned that this will have an extremely negative impact on the investment climate in the EU if investors would have to fear such illegal confiscation. Peskow had already threatened to deal with judicial steps the day before.
