On March 1, Ramadan began for around two billion Muslims. Even in the destroyed Gaza, people try to commit the festival in dignity – as best as possible.
In the ninth month of the Islamic calendar eat and drink believing Muslims from sunrise to sunset. After dark, they gather to break and pray the fast together. So also in Gaza. The Palestinians celebrate the holy month on the ruins of their destroyed houses. A moment of hope after 15 months of war and several ten thousand dead.
But the future for the coastal strip is still uncertain. US President Trump would prefer to drive the Palestinians away to build a “Riviera of the Middle East” under US control. Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu threatens to resume the fights if not all hostages are released. In Cairo, the Arab countries try to develop a concept for reconstruction – but until Gaza is back, but is likely to pass even more than Ramadan.
