During a military exercise near the inner Korean border, a pilot accidentally dropped eight bombs to a village. At least 15 people were injured.
In a military exercise in Pocheon in South Korean, 15 people were injured by an erroneous bombing. As South Korea’s official news agency Yonhap reported, the pilot of a South Korean fighter plane accidentally accused eight bombs over a village. Ten of the 15 injuries had to be hospitalized, two of them with serious injuries. In addition, several buildings have been damaged by the bombing, including a church.
The misfortune took place as part of a military exercise that was regularly carried out by US and South Korean armed forces near the inner Korean border. According to Yonhap, a representative of the South Korean Air Force said that a pilot entered wrong coordinates during the flight preparation and thus caused the erroneous bombing.
The mayor of Pocheon, Baek Si Jang, called for the military exercises in the region to fully stop in a first statement in front of the local press. Some residents and groups from civil society have been protesting against military exercises for years.
