Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) plans the further support of Ukraine. Germany and Great Britain want to take the lead in armaments deliveries.
Defense Minister Boris Pistorius wants to replace the military aid for Ukraine with international partners under US President Donald Trump for the time being. At the same time, at a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umjerow in Berlin, he said that the exploratory talks with the Union also spoke about a long -proposed additional auxiliary package of three billion euros for Ukraine. “And of course I strongly campaign for us to come to a quick solution here,” said Pistorius.
If the financing of the three-billion package succeeds, the delivery of further air defense systems with steering aircraft is possible. In addition, Germany can also further strengthen the skills of the Ukrainian land forces with additional artillery systems – the Panzerhaubitzen 2000 and the new RCH 155 wheel shadows.
Pistorius announced that Germany and Great Britain wanted to take on a leadership role in the armor deliveries and help. “To coordinate this, my British colleague John Healey and I decided: As a co-leader, we will continue the Ukraine contact group under our joint management,” said Pistorius. “The situation is serious and demands determined and prudent action.”
Ukraine thanks Germany for support
Umjerow thanked for the help from Germany. So far, Germany has already provided Germany military aid worth around 28 billion euros. “That is 37 percent of total European aid and 16 percent of total aid in the security area,” emphasized the Ukrainian. The Federal Republic plays a “decisive role”, especially in the air defense.
