Another setback for Elon Musk: rocket explodes shortly after start
Elon Musk wants to open up Mars with the largest missile system in history. Now another test did not run as desired – with far -reaching consequences.
Another setback for the “Starship” by Elon Musk: The upper part of the SpaceX spacecraft exploded on Thursday (local time) minutes after the start. The so -called “upper level” came out of control in space. Several videos on social media show fiery, falling rocket parts that illuminate the sky at dusk over the US state of Florida and Caribbean.
The largest rocket system in space history ever built has not been able to complete a eighth test flight as planned. “During the rise of ‘Starship’, the vehicle suffered a rapid, unplanned disassembly and the contact was lost,” said the SpaceX space company.

Overall, the system is larger than the Statue of Liberty. Both parts, both the booster and the spaceship, are designed in such a way that they can be reused after returning to earth. The US room trip authority NASA wants to send astronauts to the moon with the “Starship”, while SpaceX pursues the goal of reaching Mars one day.
