Again, employees of the federal and municipalities of the public service resign. This time it hits professional fields in which many women work.
Tens of thousands of employees in daycare centers and other social institutions have laid down their work in order to give their demands for better working conditions and more money. Nationwide, more than 30,000 people followed Verdi’s warning strike call, a spokesman for the union said when asked about the dpa.
Verdi had called for professional groups in which a large number of women work, for a nationwide warning strike day. Kitas, youth and social welfare offices as well as clinics, nursing and social institutions are affected. There were outstanding and rallies in Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse.
A Verdi spokeswoman in Hesse spoke of around 3,750 participants in rallies in several cities. In the health sector alone, around 2,000 employees took part in Bavaria, as the head of the state department Robert Hinke said. In North Rhine -Westphalia, a spokeswoman for more than 11,000 employees reported. The daycare centers remained closed in many places in Germany.
The background is the collective bargaining dispute in the public service of the federal government and municipalities. According to Verdi, the so -called Equal Pay Day on March 7 and International Women’s Day on March 8th. “The strike day on the Equal Pay Day / Women’s Day is a clear signal for more wage justice and better working conditions in the social (women) professions in the public service and a reaction of the employees to the fact that there was no offer in the second round of negotiations,” said Christine Behle, the deputy Verdi Chairman.
In the collective bargaining negotiations, the union calls for eight percent more wages, but at least 350 euros more, as well as more free days. Negotiations are being made for a total of 2.5 million employees. So far, employers have not submitted a specific offer. The third round of negotiation begins on March 14th. Public servants have been out of service for weeks.
