The Greens need the Union and the SPD to be able to get their planned financial package. However, they don’t like the current form of the package. You have your own ideas.
The Union and SPD want to increase defense spending, but the way they want to achieve it does not like the Greens. They are now doing a counter -proposal.
The black and red draft for a financial package is not an alternative because the concept of defense spending there is too closely, according to a draft law that the faction has passed. This does not lead to “the pressing questions in the area of total defense and security policy tasks are solved”.
The Greens want to ensure that the Bundeswehr only benefits from more money. “The strengthening of defense ability, also in systems of collective security, the expansion of intelligence agencies, the support of international law assistance, abroad in the event of crisis, strengthening international organizations for peacekeeping and the protection of the civilian systems and the protection of the civilian systems, also include a comprehensive, broad and integrated security concept.”
Greens are dissatisfied with the Union and SPD financial package
Defense expenses above 1.5 percent of gross domestic product want to take out the Greens from the debt brake. The Union and SPD want to draw this limit at 1 percent. The Greens therefore want to contest a higher proportion of defense spending from the normal budget.
On Monday afternoon, they made it clear that they would not agree to the planned billion-dollar defense and infrastructure package from the Union and SPD. A meeting of the UNION, SPD and Greens’ parliamentary group shortly afterwards came to an end after about an hour and a half. Nobody commented on content or atmosphere.
However, the Greens did not hit all doors. The Green Group Chairman Katharina Dröge said it was right to convene the new Bundestag. If that doesn’t happen, the Greens are also ready for faster decisions. But she made it clear: the Greens want a general reform of the debt brake. The left would also have signaled their consent.
The Greens also have a schedule: “We gave ourselves a week to see if there is an overall cleaning,” said co-party leader Felix Banaszak on Monday evening on ZDF. If no overall cleaning succeeds, the Greens are ready to change the Basic Law for Higher Defense and Security Expenses on the basis of their own legislative proposal with the Union and the SPD.
