Airports take up operation again after warning strikes

Exits to 13 larger airports in Germany paralyzed large parts of air traffic. The company has been running again since morning – but it is still fully in the terminals.

After warning strikes at 13 German airports, air traffic started again in the morning. A few machines should still take off from several airports that should have started on Monday. There were also occasional failures, for example because machines were not available.

At the largest airport in Germany, Frankfurt, flight operations have been launched normally since 5:00 a.m., the traffic management of the airport said. More than 1,100 starts and landings are planned, for which more than 140,000 passengers have to be handled.

According to online information, the first flight started at the capital airport BER at 5:30 a.m. The airport company expects around 15,000 additional passengers to start the day before, as a BER spokesman said. Accordingly, 214 departures and 219 arrivals are planned. A spokesman emphasized that much more will be going on, especially until lunchtime. He recommended that passengers plan to plan more time.

From Munich Airport it was said that the resumption worked well. Occupational cancellations are still to be expected as a result of the strip, said a spokesman. However, the majority of the flights take place regularly. Almost 80 percent of the connections in Munich had failed in Munich.

Strike lame large parts of air traffic

On Monday, the Verdi union paralyzed large parts of air traffic with a warning strike at 13 larger airports in Germany. Employees from the public service of the airport operators, ground traffic services and in the air safety area were called for industrial action.

The airports were struck by Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, Hamburg, Hanover, Bremen, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Cologne/Bonn, Leipzig/Halle and Stuttgart. At the airports Weeze near Düsseldorf and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, only the employees of the air security area were called up.

Nationwide, according to an estimate by the ADV airport association, more than 3,500 flights had failed, around 560,000 passengers could not start their trips as planned.

In the collective bargaining negotiations for the public service of the federal government and the municipalities, the union calls for eight percent more money for employees, but at least 350 euros more, as well as three additional days off. So far, employers have not submitted a specific offer. The next round of negotiations will be planned in Potsdam from Friday.
