Russian troops came to the neighboring country of Ukraine three years ago. Now US President Trump wants to achieve the weapons quickly. Ukraine pulls along – but what does the Kremlin do?
Ukraine has agreed to a 30-day fire break in the war with Russia-if Moscow also committed itself to it. The promise is a result of Ukraine negotiations with the US government in Saudi Arabia. After the meeting in Dschidda, the Americans also promised that they immediately resume their recently stopped military aid to Kiev and that the US intelligence agencies also pass on information to Ukraine again.
Russia attacked its neighboring country three years ago. Ukraine defends itself against the invasion with western help, but it recently got on the defensive on several front sections.
“Ball is now in her field”
US President Donald Trump said that hopefully Russia’s President Vladimir Putin would also agree to the proposal for a break. “We want to get this war behind.” The US delegation will have talks with Russia “today and tomorrow”. And he himself wants to talk to Putin quickly – maybe this week.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in the direction of Kremlin: “The ball is now in her field.” One came a step closer to a “permanent peace”.
Trump wants to force a quick end of the war. He recently put Kiev under pressure by temporarily stopping the arms deliveries, but appears far less demanding compared to the Aggressor Russia.
Selenskyj speaks of a positive step
Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj gave the proposal for a 30-day ceasefire a positive step. “Now it is up to the United States to convince Russia to do the same. If Russia agrees, the ceasefire will come into force immediately,” he wrote on X. According to Russian information, Moscow and the surrounding area had massively attacked drones.
The Russian government initially did not comment on content. However, contacts to the United States in the next few days are not excluded, said the spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry, Maria Sacharova, in Moscow.
Russia followed the talks in Dschidda. The Kremlin also made serious allegations against Kiev because of the massive Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian capital and the Moscow surrounding area on Tuesday night. While the Americans tried to mediate and explore the Ukrainians’ will to peace, they tried to “spoil the emerging tendencies,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow.
Selenskyj not in conversations
According to Selenskyj’s words, the US proposal is more comprehensive than last discussed. If not only air strikes with rockets, drones and bombs as well as attacks from the Black Sea would be included, but the entire front line, Selenskyj said in a video message.
After a scandal in the White House, he did not take part in the meeting in Dschidda. Trump and his vice JD Vance had caught the Ukrainian head of state in front of ongoing cameras and subordinated him ungrateful and lack of peace. The United States then deleted military and intelligence aids of Ukraine.
In the statement by Dschidda, the Ukrainian delegation now confirmed the “great gratitude” of the Ukrainian people to Trump, the US Congress and the American people.
According to the message, both sides agreed to form teams of tedges and to start negotiations on a permanent peace that gives Ukraine in the long term. The United States would have undertaken to discuss this with representatives of Russia. Ukraine emphasized that its European partners should be integrated into the peace process.
Mineral agreements should follow
It was also agreed to conclude a comprehensive agreement as soon as possible about the development of the important Ukrainian soil treasures. The agreement should originally be signed at the crooked meeting in the White House.
The top representative of the EU was pleased with the result of the consultations. “We welcome today’s news from Dschidda to the talks between the USA and Ukraine, including the proposal for a ceasefire agreement and the resumption of the exchange of secret service information and security support by the United States,” said EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Council President António Costa.
