Each parliamentary group in the Bundestag may nominate a representative of the Presidium. This is not easy for the Greens this time.
In the Green Group there is an open power struggle for the Vice Presidency in the Bundestag. Both the previous incumbent Katrin Göring-Eckardt and former party leader Omid Nouripour have threw their hat off to the ring with application letter. This is quite unusual, since personal details in the parliamentary group are often also clarified internally.
Göring-Eckardt justified her application with her origin from East Germany. “As a party and faction, we should not leave this part of our country to the right -wing fattening makers,” she emphasized.
In his letter, Nouripour emphasized that his experience in different offices and his biographical background had taught him to “build bridges, bring together different perspectives and promote respectful debates – far beyond party boundaries”. He enters the diversity, the preservation of parliamentary traditions and a transparent, citizen -related policy. The “Spiegel” first reported on Nouripour’s application.
Bundestag presidium will be elected on March 25th
A place in the Bundestag Presidium ensures prestige and influence. In addition to the president, who traditionally come from the strongest faction, the other factions each provide a vice president. However, the AfD has always been empty here since it moved into the Bundestag in 2017.
The newly elected Bundestag will come together on March 25 for its constituent session. Then the presidium is also elected. President and Vice President lead the Bundestag sessions and guards about compliance with the parliamentary order.
