Direct contact is often better than a message on the mailbox. The CDU boss now sees that the latter is not always optimal.
“Well meant” does not always have to be good – Friedrich Merz also found out. The CDU leader had left the Green Group leader Britta Haßelmann a message on the mailbox after the exploitation of Union and the SPD to prepare discussions with the Greens about the huge financial package. In the Greens, whose voices are necessary to reach changes to the basic law with the old Bundestag, this was not so well received.
After the vertebrae, Merz would not proceed again. “If I had known that a really well -intentioned message on Ms. Haßelmann’s mailbox triggered such waves, then I would have waived this message and tried to get in touch with her as soon as possible,” he told the “Bild am Sonntag”. “I really wanted to inform her before we went to the press conference on Saturday after the exploratory talks. It was only important to me to reach her,” Merz said for understanding his approach.
In the end, the talks between the Union and the SPD were successful on the one hand and the Greens on the other. On Tuesday, the old Bundestag could decide on changes in the Basic Law, and on Friday the ban on the Federal Council is pending.
