AfD fails with an urgent application against the Federal Council vote on financial package

Decision in Karlsruhe
AfD’s urgent application against the Federal Council vote on Finanzpaket fails

The Federal Council today wants to vote on the Union and SPD’s billion -dollar financial package. The AfD tried again legally to stop the debt package – again without success.

The attempt by the AfD to have the vote planned for Friday about the financial package of the Union and the SPD has been stopped by the Federal Constitutional Court has failed. This time the parliamentary group in Karlsruhe wanted to ensure that the court temporarily prohibited the Federal Council to agree to the corresponding changes to the Basic Law. The second Senate rejected the application for an interim order.

This means that the vote can take place in the country chamber after the Bundestag has already agreed to the package.

AfD’s urgent requests and the FDP previously failed

Previously, the court had already rejected several applications-including two of the AfD parliamentary group, with which the applicants wanted to prevent the financial package in the Bundestag. They had rely on the fact that the old Bundestag should not have been convened for special meetings, and that the advisory period was not sufficient. Several trends in the FDP before the constitutional courts of the countries against the consent of their respective state governments had also failed.

With a two -thirds majority in the Federal Council, the financial package would have taken the last parliamentary hurdle. In the future, the Union and SPD want to expose defense spending of more than one percent of economic output from the debt brake and use a 500-billion euro special assets for infrastructure and climate protection.

On Tuesday, the Bundestag voted for the billion-dollar finance package for defense and infrastructure. Today the package in the Federal Council is supposed to take the last major hurdle.
