Ministry of the Interior: Prepare the population for danger sites
In Finland and Sweden, citizens are called to prepare themselves for crises. In Germany, the topic cooks more on a back burner, also because you don’t want to scare people.
The Federal Ministry of the Interior considers better preparation for the population for natural disasters and so -called hybrid threats. Nothing should change in the existing structures that the federal government for the protection of civilians in the event of war and tension and the countries for disaster protection. With natural disasters, power failures, fires, cyber attacks and hybrid threats there is “diverse danger situation,” said the ministry spokesman, Maximilian Kall, in Berlin. Therefore, “a higher social awareness” is needed.
The Federal Government therefore introduced an annual population protection day and the annual nationwide warning day. Previously, a spokesman for the ministry had told the “Handelsblatt”: “In view of the development of the security policy situation in recent times, a stronger focus should be on civil protection, even in school education.”
The CDU security politician Roderich Kiesewetter told the newspaper: “It is imperative that an emergency is practiced, because the pupils are particularly vulnerable and particularly affected in an emergency.”
At the request of journalists, Ministry spokesman Kall said that the federal government did not want to interfere with the learning content, for which responsibility was in the countries. However, he was convinced that the state governments were also concerned about how the population could be made more resilient.
Greens want nationwide exercise once a year
Greens politicians had published a “ten-point plan on the current challenges in domestic politics” last week. Among other things, it says: “The Federal Office for Population Protection and Disaster Aid (BBK) has to get more skills, especially in cross -border control, and cyber aid must also be expanded.” Another essential building block is the “self -help capacity of the population”. The nationwide population protection day should “also be used as a exercise day to increase the crisis resistance of the entire society”.
