Waiting should come to an end soon. In the afternoon there could be a coalition agreement between the Union and the SPD.
Six and a half weeks after the Bundestag election, the coalition negotiations between the Union and the SPD go to the last round. “It is worth waiting today,” said SPD general secretary Matthias Miersch in the morning when he arrived at the CDU headquarters in Berlin to the journalists gathered there. The negotiators of the CDU, CSU and SPD want to reach an agreement on a coalition agreement by the afternoon.
Rehlinger: “I am confident”
“I am confident that we can now successfully go together for the last few meters,” said the deputy SPD chairman Anke Rehlinger. When asked where it is still there, the Saarland Prime Minister added: “There are always a few questions at the end that you have to clarify.”
Schwesig: “I hope it works”
The head of government Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Manuela Schwesig, was also confident. “Everyone wants us to get ready, the citizens and we too. I hope that will work.” If an agreement is reached, the results are expected to be presented in a press conference in the afternoon.
Prien: “We are on the last few meters”
The deputy CDU chairman Karin Prien said: “We are in the last few meters and I am in good spirits that we will come to a good result today.”
The coalition negotiations had started in mid -March, three weeks after the Bundestag election on February 23. Previously, the Union and SPD had already agreed in exploratory talks to an eleven -page key point paper, which, among other things, provided for the loosening of the debt brake for defense and a special fund of 500 billion euros for investments, especially in the infrastructure.
Parties still have to agree
After an agreement on a coalition agreement, the three parties have to agree before he can then be signed and CDU boss Friedrich Merz can be elected Chancellor in the Bundestag. At the SPD, the members vote on the CDU a small party congress, the board at the CSU.
