Chinese soldiers should also fight for Russia – a contradiction to the official position of Beijings, according to Kiev. Meanwhile, important discussions are held in the Brussels NATO headquarters.
While the United States is hesitation for Ukraine, Defense Minister from Member States of the so-called coalition of the willing come together in the Brussels NATO headquarters. The group led by France and Great Britain wants to drive their plans to support the country, which is attacked by Russia, at today’s meeting (3 p.m.). The main question is how Ukraine could be given the highest level of security if it should be involved in an armistice.
For this purpose, a concept for monitoring a possible ceasefire as well as plans for even greater support for the Ukrainian armed forces is worked on through training and arms deliveries. Ideally, the army should become so powerful that Russia does not dare to aggresses. It is also discussed to station European armed forces on the western border of Ukraine for deterrent.
Selenskyj calls China’s position contradictory
After the capture of two Chinese fighting on the Russian army on the part of the Russian army in Ukraine, the leadership in Kiev took up serious accusations against Beijing. It is not individual cases, said Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj in his evening video message. “We also have information about other Chinese citizens in the Russian army with names and combat names as well as descriptions of the concrete way of how these soldiers got into the Russian crew contingent.”
In a press conference, Selenskyj had given the number of Chinese in the Russian army at least 155. These fighters now have all the information, including the pass data, he said. Russia advertise these men about social networks like Tikkok and the government in Beijing knew about it. The two Chinese prisoners, who would now be questioned in Kiev, will only release Ukraine in exchange for their own prisoners of war, said Selenskyj at the press conference.
In his video message, Selenskyj emphasized that it contradicts Beijing’s official position that Chinese fight on the part of the Russian occupiers. China’s leadership always warned of an escalation of the war – but the participation of Chinese fighters represents just such an escalation. Therefore, a tough reaction is required.
China, which is officially neutral, had rejected the accusation that own citizens were involved in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. These were baseless claims, it said. The Chinese government has always asked its citizens to stay away from areas with military conflicts.
Paid to fight for Russia?
Ukrainian media had previously reported, citing army circles, one of the Chinese, recently captured in Ukraine, had paid the equivalent of more than 3,100 euros to become Russian soldier. He was motivated by the prospect of a Russian pass. He therefore entered Russia as a tourist. The Russian army usually pays a hand money of the equivalent of several thousand euros to recruit new soldiers.
According to the prisoner, the basic training in Luhansk, according to the prisoner, is said to have taken place without translators, according to the online portal “Ukrajinska Prawda”. The communication was carried out by gestures and automatic translations on the phone. In fighting for the village of Bilohoriwka in the Luhansk region, the man was then captured by Ukrainian. Because of the lack of language skills, his group came into a hopeless situation and had to result.
Hope for new arms deliveries from the USA
The Ukrainian allegations against China receive additional explosiveness against the background of the unprecedented trade war between Washington and Beijing. While US President Donald Trump has strategically regarded China as the greatest threat in the United States, he treats Russia comparatively benevolently. Several Russian war demands such as the waiver of Ukraine in larger areas and NATO accession had practically approved before actual negotiations on possible ceasefire. From his huge customs package, Trump also excludes Russia with reference to ongoing peace efforts, but not Ukraine.
In contrast to his predecessor Joe Biden, Trump is not willing to continue investing large sums in the support of Ukraine. However, Selenskyj again confirmed that his country was ready to pay for further military aid from the USA, especially for the urgently needed aircraft systems of the Patriot type. Negotiations on a raw material agreement between the two countries are currently underway, with which the United States wants to secure control of rare earth in Ukraine, among other things.
