Angela Merkel Friedrich Merz once kept cold in the race for the CDU chair. Now the former chancellor has spent her former rival and chancellor.
One day after the presentation of the coalition agreement of Union and SPD, former Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) attested “absolute will” to the probably future Federal Chancellor and party colleague Friedrich Merz. “What stood a bit between us was simply the fact that occurs very often in life that we both wanted to be boss,” said Merkel at Deutschlandfunk Kultur. Merz ‘will, however, showed himself and he has now taken the chance and possibility.
Relationship between Angela Merkel and Friedrich Merz was long stressed
Merkel and Merz jokingly described himself and Merz as a “Dream team” when a photo of the two is shown in Merkel’s election to the CDU party leader from 2000. “I am about a year older than he and you could almost say we were a good year because we are enough for a long time,” joked Merkel.
The relationship of Merz-Merkel was long after the then CDU boss replied to him as an Union faction leader after the 2002 Bundestag election. At a CDU celebration for their 70th birthday in late summer, both recently dealt with each other extremely friendly. On the election evening of February 23, Merkel congratulated the CDU boss by SMS on the Union’s election victory.
