UN office: Signs of crimes in the Gaza Strip

Israel must not necessarily drive people in the Gaza Strip out of areas, says the UN human rights office. It suspects that Israel pursues far -reaching plans.

According to its own statements, the UN human rights office sees that Israel wants to make the life of the Palestinians impossible in the Gaza Strip. “In view of the effects of the procedure of the Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip, the office is seriously concerned that Israel apparently excesses living conditions to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which are increasingly incompatible with their continued existence in the Gaza Strip,” said the office in Geneva.

Among other things, the UN human rights office condemned an evacuation call in the Rafah region in the south of the coastal strip. There is great concern that people could not return because Israel wants to build a buffer zone there. Forced displacement violates the universal -applicable Geneva conventions to protect the civilian population under an occupying power. That is a crime against humanity, says the spokeswoman for the office, Ravina Shamdasani, in Geneva.

Israel threatens the life of the Palestinians from the military attacks and the closure of the border crossings, so that no food and medication have been brought into the Gaza Strip since the beginning of March. Israel apparently makes the auxiliary deliveries dependent on the release of the last Israeli hostages, which were delayed on October 7, 2023 in the terrorist attack of Hamas and other extremists. Both the collective punishment of the population and the starvation as a war weapon are prohibited.

The UN office sees the solution only in negotiations on a two-state solution. It requires the release of all Israeli hostages and all arbitrarily arrested Palestinians.

After a two -month ceasefire, Israel resumed the massive attacks in mid -March. According to its own statements, the Israeli government wants to achieve the release of the hostages and the destruction of Hamas and has recently increased the pressure. The Israeli Minister of Defense Israel Katz threatened to “completely devastate” the Gaza Strip. He also announced the conquest of areas in the Palestinian area, which should serve as Israeli “security zones”.
