The coalition agreement is – but what does the SPD basis say? The party leaders advertise approval in Hanover. But above all the offspring is skeptical.
SPD boss Lars Klingbeil advertises the coalition agreement for approval for a black and red federal government before the start of the member vote. “This also includes a Chancellor Friedrich Merz – and I trust him that he will lead our country well in these difficult times,” said Klingbeil in the ARD program “Report from Berlin”. From Tuesday on and until April 29, all 358,000 SPD members can vote on the coalition agreement.
This Monday, the SPD leadership agrees with the party members at the vote at a conference in Hanover. In addition to Klingbeil, co-party leader Saskia Esken, General Secretary Matthias Miersch and several other politicians who have led the negotiations for the SPD take part.
Coalition agreement with the subject of financing
The question could also come up how firmly the projects mentioned in the coalition agreement are really agreed. So it says in the 144 -page document: “We will reduce income tax for small and medium -sized incomes to the center of the legislature.” For Merz, this is an agreement with reservation. In the ARD show “Caren Miosga” he confirmed that it was the common will of the Union and the SPD to put this project into practice. “But we do not make any promises that we cannot fulfill.” He pointed out that all measures stated in the coalition agreement would be under a financing reservation.
Jusos in several federal states against the coalition agreement
Resistance to black and red is formed in the SPD youth. The Jusos in Bavaria argued on the weekend that the coalition agreement was “not suitable for tackling the central political questions and enormous injustice in our society”. The Jusos from Schleswig-Holstein spoke of “unsolidaric migration, social and sociopolitical projects”. SPD young organizations from other federal states also expressed criticism of the plans of the possible black and red government.
Klingbeil said in the ARD: “Everyone has the right to coordinate how he or she wants to coordinate the member vote. This is a democratic decision.” However, everyone must be clear what the alternative to fail a coalition of the democratic center. “An alternative are new elections, an alternative may be a minority government,” said Klingbeil. But with everything that is going on world politics, Germany must be a place of stability. A stable government is needed for this.
CDU will vote on the coalition agreement in the event of a small party congress
The CSU board has already accepted the coalition agreement entitled “Responsibility for Germany”. The CDU will vote on April 28 at a small party congress. If everything runs smoothly, CDU boss Merz is to be elected Chancellor in the Bundestag on May 6th. Then the entire cabinet should also be sworn in.
Not only the majority of the votes, but also a participation of at least 20 percent of the members in digital coordination is required for the acceptance of the coalition agreement by the SPD basis. In 2013 and 2018, the SPD had also voted the Union on the coalition contracts. There was great approval both times. The members, on the other hand, do not decide on the traffic light government formed in 2021 with the Greens and FDP.
