Rubio: USA could set peace efforts within a few days

In Paris, Europeans, Ukrainians and Americans advise on the ways to end the war. The US foreign minister then spoke about a possible failure of the negotiations.

According to Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, the United States could soon hire its efforts to peace between Russia and Ukraine if there were no clear signs of an agreement. This could happen within a few days, said US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Paris after a meeting with representatives of Ukraine and other European countries.

US President Donald Trump is still interested in an agreement, but has many other priorities worldwide. If an agreement is not possible, Trump may say: “We’re done.” It must be determined quickly whether an agreement is possible to terminate the war in Ukraine, says Rubio. If it is serious with a peace both sides, then the United States is ready to help.

Rubio hopes for Europeans

Rubio expressed hope that Europeans will continue to participate in the talks held by the USA. “I think that Great Britain, France and Germany can help us to advance things and come closer to a solution,” he said before his departure to journalists. “We want you to continue to get involved,” said Rubio with a view to the European allies of Ukraine. He found her ideas “very helpful and constructive”.

On Thursday for the first time since US President Donald Trump took office, representatives of the United States and Europe had held discussions on the subject of Ukraine. At the meeting in Paris, Rubio and the US specialist Steve Witkoff advised themselves to end the war with rank-high representatives of Germany, France, Great Britain and Ukraine. From the French side it was said that the conversations were “positive”. A continuation of the negotiations is planned in London next week.
