US President Trump wants to present an agreement for the end of the war in Ukraine – and makes serious accusations to Ukraine. A meeting in London, on the other hand, is not so important to the United States.
US President Donald Trump accuses the Ukrainian Prime Minister Wolodymyr Selenskyj to unnecessarily extend the war with Russia with his attitude. Selenskyj refusal to accept the occupation of Crimea by the Russians was “very harmful to the peace negotiations,” Trump wrote on his platform Truth Social after the US government had already increased the pressure on both sides.
Trump wrote that the statements that made it difficult to enclose this war were difficult. Selenskyj had previously categorically excluded territory to Russia. “There is nothing to talk about. That is outside of our constitution,” said the head of state in Kiev with a view to the Ukrainian areas annexed by Russia such as the Black Sea Peninsula Crimea.
Trump-Vice Vance in India, Foreign Minister Rubio not in London
Trump’s Vice President JD Vance said on Wednesday that both sides would have to give up part of the territory that they are currently checking – without giving any details about the areas. A “clear proposal” for the peace negotiations was submitted to the Russians and Ukrainians.
It was time for “you either” say “or withdraw the USA from the negotiation process, said Vance during his trip to India. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had previously canceled his participation in a supposed summit in London.
On Wednesday there was only spoken in the British capital at the advisor level, not under outside ministers. A spokeswoman for the US State Department gave logistical reasons for Rubios absence – the expectations of quick progress in London for peace in Ukraine were therefore damped. Large results were not announced after the meeting.
A week ago, the US Minister visited a similar meeting in Paris. The “New York Times” reported that Rubio decided on Tuesday to leave the next phase of the talks. The meeting in London was then downgraded, wrote the “Politico” portal.
US special envoys to Moscow?
Vance was all the more clear in India. The United States had operated an “extraordinary measure” of diplomacy and tried to “understand things from the perspective of both the Ukrainian and the Russians,” said the Trump-Vice, he spoke of a “very fair proposal”.
He did not call a precise period of time until when both sides should say “yes”. According to US media, the US specialist Steve Witkoff was not there in London. He is to travel to Moscow again in the coming days in order to again advise against the end of the attack with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“We will see whether the Europeans, the Russians and the Ukrainians are ultimately able to bring this thing across the finish line,” said Vance. But he was “quite optimistic”. The goal is a “long -term” peace. “We hope that the Russians and Ukrainians will meet us halfway,” said Vance.
The fact that Rubio had not traveled to London had caused some confusion. British Foreign Minister David Lammy announced on the X platform that he had called Rubio. Great Britain works with the United States, Ukraine and Europe to achieve peace and end the illegal invasion of the Russian President, Lammy wrote.
The French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot was also missing in London, instead presidential advisor Emmanuel Bonne took part in the consultations. As already after Paris, Berlin sent the Chancellor advisor for foreign and security policy, Jens Plötner, on the negotiations.
Conflict between Kyiv and Washington The cause?
Rubio’s cancellation took place shortly after Selenskyj had excluded territory. Previously, there had been media reports that Trump’s “last offer” contains a legal recognition of the Black Sea Peninsula Crimea annexed by Moscow as Russian. In addition, the occupation of other Ukrainian areas of standing Ukrainian areas is actually tolerated.
In return, Moscow should commit itself to freezing the invasion along the current front line, the “Financial Times” reported, citing the matter. According to military experts from the US Institute for War Studies (ISW), freezing the front is not yet a guarantee of future peace. Russia could use the break in the fighting for further upgrade and a later resumption of aggression, especially if a moratorium on western weapons aid is stipulated to Ukraine in the agreement.
In addition, Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow did not want to confirm that Moscow agreed to the possibility of stopping the fights on the current front line. Many false reports were currently circulating in the media, but possible contours of an agreement would not be intended for the public. At the same time, he himself publicly speculated that the advisable high -ranking meeting in London had failed due to differences between Kiev and Washington.
Consequences for Ukraine
A withdrawal of the United States – in this case may also be a supporter – would mean massive weakening in their defense against Russian invasion for Ukraine. The high -ranking Ukrainian negotiator team in London, led by Presidential advisor Andrij Jermak, reacted calmly for the time being. Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiha posted a photo with Lammy in the early afternoon, where he thanked Britain for the support. The team will talk about opportunities to strengthen Ukraine and the achievement of permanent peace, he wrote.
