In addition to the US president, France’s President Macron also met with the Ukrainian President Selenskyj. The Ukrainian emphasized his willingness to become an unconditional ceasefire.
On the sidelines of the funeral service for Pope Francis in Rome, French President Emmanuel Macron also exchanged his Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj about the peace efforts in the Ukraine War. “Ukraine is ready for unconditional ceasefire,” said Macron on X. Now Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has to prove whether he was actually ready to make peace.
Macron continued to work together on the side of the USA and Europe on the implementation of an arms break and a full and permanent peace in Ukraine. In particular, this should happen as part of the “coalition of the willing”, which was launched in Paris in March.
In addition to Macron, US President Donald Trump also met Selenskyj in Rome on Saturday. The white house described the meeting as “very productive”. Trump wants to end the Russian war of attack in Ukraine and get Selenskyj concessions. Selenskyj has so far categorically rejected a waiver of the Black Sea Peninsula Crimea or other areas incorporated by Moscow in eastern Ukraine in 2014.
