Germany will probably get a foreign minister from the CDU after decades. Other names of designated cabinet members of Friedrich Merz are also in circulation.
The CDU politician Johann WadePhul is based on information from star and NTV Foreign Minister in the government under Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The Schleswig-Holstein Minister of Education Karin Prien takes over the new educational department in the federal government. Both CDU politicians have been traded as promising candidates for weeks. The energy manager and former CDU MP Katherina Reiche is also said to become Minister of Economic Affairs.
After star– and NTV information also receives the previous parliamentary managing director of the Union faction, Thorsten Frei, the post of head of the chancellor. The CSU therefore sends Dorothee Bär as Minister for Research, Technology and Space into the Merz government. Alexander Dobrindt also becomes Interior Minister. CDU and CSU agreed on the former health minister Jens Spahn for the post of the Union Group’s chairman.
On Monday, CDU boss Merz officially wants to present the future ministers in Berlin, who sends his party to the federal government. At the same time, CSU boss Markus Söder introduces his candidates in Munich.
WadePhul probably the first CDU foreign minister for decades
The specialist politician WADEPHUL from Schleswig-Holstein would be the first CDU foreign minister for almost 60 years. The former North Rhine-Westphalia Prime Minister Armin Laschet was also speculated. Prien also belonged to the CDU coalition negotiation team. For rich, it would be a kind of comeback: from 1998 to 2015 it belonged to the Bundestag. Seven years of this she was a member of the federal government as a parliamentary state secretary.

According to the coalition agreement, the CDU provides seven of the 17 ministers, as well as the SPD. There are three departments on the CSU. In addition to the outdoor and education department, the CDU occupies the Ministry of Economic, Health and Transport, as well as the newly created department for digitization and state modernization, according to the coalition agreement. The party also occupies the position of the head of the Chancellor. The CSU occupies the inner and the Ministry of Agriculture as well as the Ministry of Research, Technology and Space.
SPD distributes ministerial posts later than the CDU
The SPD provides the ministers for finance, defense, work and social affairs, development, environment and climate protection, building and living as well as justice and consumer protection. The SPD only wants to present its candidates for the new cabinet after the end of its membership decision on the coalition agreement.
The CSU has already approved the coalition agreement. The CDU wants to take this step at a small party congress on Monday.
