No day without news from Donald Trump. The US President flooded his country with new decrees, abroad with tariffs and harsh threats. Now he is in office for 100 days and shows no fatigue
US President Donald Trump has changed the United States and Washington’s relationships to the rest of the world at a breathtaking pace. His employees like to speak of Trump speed. Trump, who experiences the 100th day of his term today, created with more than a hundred decrees in almost all areas. For many outsiders, it is hard to understand how little resistance is stirring in the USA. A selection of the most important developments:
According to Trump, practically the whole world has conspired economically against his country: Almost all countries would have been exploited for years and the EU was only created to take out the United States. His panacea: tariffs.
At the so -called “Liberation Day” – the “Day of Liberation” – he announced horrendous special tariffs on goods from numerous countries. The horror abroad was huge, the stock exchanges went downhill, and Trump had to move back. He announced a 90-day break to negotiate.
However, tariffs of 10 percent apply to almost all countries, for neighboring countries Mexico and Canada it is 25 percent in many areas, and 145 percent for China. Auto tariffs and tariffs on steel and aluminum also apply of 25 percent. In the United States, concern is growing against significant price increases – and the dollar falls compared to the euro.
International relationships
The Europeans received the first impression of the deteriorating relationships less than three weeks after Trump’s inauguration. His vice JD Vance attacked the European allies at the Munich Security Conference unusually sharply and warned them of a threat to democracy.
Trump later insulted the Europeans as a parasite. He humiliated his northern neighbor Canada by repeatedly talking about wanting to incorporate the country as the 51st state. Trump also insists that the USA should get Greenland.
The unprecedented treatment of Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj in the White House, whom Trump and his vice were subordinate to a lack of gratitude. On later occasions, Trump accused Selenskyj of starting the war against the big neighbor Russia or not preventing him.
“When you start a war, you have to know that you can win it. You don’t start a war against someone who is 20 times the size of yourself and then hope that someone will give you a few rockets.” For the Russian President Vladimir Putin, on the other hand, Trump often shows more understanding, and critics believe that even his narrative follows. After a meeting with Selenskyj in the St. Peter’s Basilica on the edge of the Pope Beyer, Trump then said that Putin had to stop shooting – and enter into a peace deal.
China is a clear opponent for Trump. He covered the Asian country with ever higher tariffs. He later assumed electronics such as smartphones and notebooks, since the USA depends too much on the deliveries. Trump always claims that head of state Xi Jinping is a friend, but apparently he did nothing to relax the situation. Trump initially said several times that he was waiting for a call from Beijing. However, there are different information on negotiations. Trump claims there are daily contacts with Beijing. From China it is said in the style of Trump that they are “fake news”.
Trump has been a tough course in migration since taking office. On the border with Mexico, hardly anyone comes through and with a war law of 1789 he sometimes tries to create foreigners from the United States. The US President declared a Venezuelan cartel to be a terrorist organization in order to be able to act more easily. And even in cases where there were doubts about the deportation, Trump does not give in – and also ignores court decisions.
According to surveys, Trump found support in the population for many weeks. A new survey by Washington Post-ABC NewS IPSOS now showed that 53 percent reject its hard line and only support 46 percent.
Trump rules his country with so -called executive orders, i.e. decrees for which he does not need the approval of the parliament. On some days, he signs several at once. In mid -April there were already over 130.
Trump is hard against alleged or real opponents and critics. Lawyers who previously sued him or who have considered an enemy in their ranks, forces the president to kneel with massive threats. He puts devices from his own party in the congress under pressure until they swing into his line.
“Drill, baby, drill” – that was one of Trump’s election slogans. Now he fully implemented this intent. Fossil fuels such as oil and coal promotes Trump, old coal giver he revives, environmental laws are being levered. Wind power rejects Trump. Dozens of regulations by the US environmental protection authority to protect the environment have been withdrawn. Already in Trump’s first term in office, the United States withdrew from the Paris climate agreement.
Tech billionaire Elon Musk and his Doge team have searched almost every ministry and every federal authority and carried out massive cuts. According to several media estimates, more than 200,000 people were fired, tens of thousands of others are said to have accepted severance payments.
Trump justifies the cuts with the bureaucracy bloated, and federal employees liked to insult as lazy. In other cases, the cuts had ideological reasons. The US Development Aid Authority USAID is to be smashed by July 1st.
Almost immediately after his inauguration, the President had prescribed only two genders for his government in the fight against “gender ideology”, there was only two genders: man and woman. Official documents such as passports and visas should again show the “correct biological gender”. Trans people should be pushed out of sport and military.
Under Trump, the Ministry of Education was actually dissolved and thousands of people were released. The institution was a waste of billions, and Trump argued that the individual states could better take care of their schools.
Some elite universities in the country arise its special anger, which Trump accuses of a left-liberal attitude, among other things. With medium cuts, some of them in billions and ever new decrees, he puts on their thumb screws. Only the elite university Harvard, which he calls “threat to democracy”, has so far resisted.
The “Fake News Media” explained by Trump are among his favorite enemies. NBC, CNN, the “New York Times” or the public broadcaster NPR, he regularly insulted that they would only spread false reports and not report his success. The AP news agency was thrown out of the so -called press pool in the White House because it continues to write “Gulf of Mexico” and not used Trump’s new name “Golf of America”. He wants to turn off the money tap from the broadcaster NPR, he had the respected foreign broadcaster Voice of America closed. In contrast, ultra -conservative stations such as Foxnews or Newsmax now have the president’s ear.
Basically, the opposition is hardly available, but an old left-wing senator and a young left congress member stand out: Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tour the country and collect tens of thousands of supporters.
The democratic Senator Cory Booker caused a stir with a more than 25 -hour record speech against the policy of the President, and the three ex -presidents Joe Biden, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama also criticized – but no democrat has so far been a great opponent, and the surveys are sad for the party. So far there have been only a few demonstrations. Smaller protests are often directed against Tesla, since company boss Musk with his Doge team, on behalf of Trump, passes through the many cuts in ministries and authorities.
