Only a “very small group of people we will take care of on the island and we will appreciate them and all of this. But we need it (Greenland) for international security.”

Trump has been expressing his interest in taking control of the Greenland belonging to the Kingdom of Denmark for months. In the past, he had not excluded the commitment of the military. Already during his first term, Trump had caused a sensation with the idea of ​​simply buying Greenland.

Greenland is the largest island on earth. From a geographical point of view, it is located on the North American continent and extends to the Arctic. The island is of great importance for the world climate and for the military control of the Arctic, it is also rich in raw materials such as rare earths. Important shipping routes also run in the region. The governments of Greenland and Denmark vehemently reject Trump’s request.

Trump also likes to see the neighboring state of Canada as part of the United States. With repeated statements, he also triggered outrage in recent months. In the NBC interview, the US President made it clear that he did not see military violence at Canada as an option. With a view of the northern neighbor, he said: “I don’t think we will ever get to this point.” With a view of Greenland, on the other hand, he pushed: “Something could happen with Greenland.
