Congratulations on the championship, FC Bayern. But not for this season
Vincent Kompany refined the game of FC Bayern aesthetically, but internationally the coach failed early with his football. From now on he is in the debt.
What will remain of this title win, the 34th German Cup of FC Bayern? From the point of view of Munich, the realization that they still have the strength to restore the traditional balance of power. Leverkusen’s triumph last season has been like a rear -end collision of the league history since this Saturday. The Bavarians quickly fueled their sheet metal, everyone else now has to line up behind them.
Otherwise there is currently little to celebrate for Munich. In the DFB Cup they left the round of 16, in the Champions League in the quarter-finals. It particularly hurts the failure in the so -called premier class because the final takes place in Munich. Linguistically, Bayern had occupied this game early on, and there was always talk of the “final Dahoam”. But now they are only spectators when the final in their stadium in Fröttmaning is kicked off on May 31.
Trainer Vincent Kompany cannot harm any of this. He is highly valued in the club because he represents a counter -figure to his predecessor Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel was exhausting, he constantly had new ideas, demanded new players – and publicly refrained from the quality of the existing ones. About Joshua Kimmich, national player and long -time regular strength of Bayern, Tuchel said: “He still doesn’t have the defensive DNA of a six.”
During the club’s management days, it was not well received that the coach talked to the best people, and in general one believed that the most expensive squad had to be enough in the Bundesliga to dominate this.
FC Bayern longed for a trainer like Kompany
Kompany, 39, came from Kleine FC Burnley from England last summer, never complained, although he could have sued loudly. Injuries and diseases weaken his team enormously; He had to completely rebuild the defense after Manuel Neuer (Wade injury), Alphonso Davies (cruciate ligament tear), Dayot Upamecano (cartilage damage in the knee) and Hiroki Ito (midfoot break). Jamal Musiala, his most important offensive player, is also missing.
Company takes it calmly. In his first season in Munich, little was heard from him anyway. He speaks extremely rarely about individual players, and if so, only positive. Kompany is silent, where Tuchel once zeterte and crashed.
Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the two clubs, have long longed for someone like Kompany who follows his work with humility. A trainer who recognizes the force of FC Bayern and adequately small power. How much Hoeneß and Rummenigge would have liked that Tuchel (and previously also Julian Nagelsmann) was looking for her advice. It would have been important to them as a gesture, as a summary of their life’s work.
Kompany not only understood how to sort yourself as a young coach at the record champion – he also understood which playing style is estimated here. Tuchel had held the team defensively, which is why his obsession, his constant shout after a wave breaker before the defense. (Tuchel introduced the “Holding Six” vocabulary in the German football vocabulary.) At Tuchel, attack football only meant counter football. The tiring waiting for the opponent’s mistake.
Kompany, the Tuchel antipode, renewed the Bayern game: he had his team advanced far into the half of the opponent and played a so-called high pressing with a lot of own ball possession and constantly running on the goal. This was sometimes spectacular and particularly liked Uli Hoeneß, who has always understood FC Bayern as an entertainment company.
The results were only left out, at least in the cup and in the Champions League. In the playoff game against Celtic Glasgow, a Davies goal prevented a historically early failure of Bavaria in the last minute of injury time.
Kompany convinced with his soft skills in his first season in Munich. With his modest appearance, he has completed the club guidance and raised football aesthetically to a higher level. This is respectable, but will no longer meet the next season. The Munichers not only see themselves as a national champion, but also as a European football power.
Vincent Kompany, the nature and temperament of FC Bayern, has recognized much faster than his two predecessors, will know what he will have to deliver in the future.
