Charter flight for refugees canceled this week

The change of government does not change the already made commitments to admit to the admission in Germany. Nevertheless, a planned flight should not take place now.

A charter flight originally intended for this week for particularly protective refugees from Kenya to Germany has been canceled. As the German Press Agency learned from the process of familiar circles, the decision was made after a conversation between the executive Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) and her designated successor Alexander Dobrindt (CSU).

First “Bild” had reported on the canceled flight, which was planned for around 190, particularly in need of protection from the civil war country of Sudan.

UN refugee aid proposes particularly in need of protection

It is not yet clear whether and if necessary when the flight will be made up. Germany had financially supported the refugee work and the EU Commission, which supported recordings through the EU resettlement program, and a total of 13,100 places for 2024 and 2025. So far, around 5,200 people have entered.

During the resettlement procedure, the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) proposes to the admission states in particular in need of protection. German representatives of the authorities then carry out surveys and security check on site.

No further flights planned for the time being

After a flight from Cairo in April, a spokesman for the Federal Ministry of the Interior told: “Until the future federal government makes decisions about the future procedure, the resettlement procedures are currently exposed to.” There are exceptions that are very advanced and that there are already concrete obligations.
