Attacks from India: Pakistan’s premier announces reaction

After India’s fatal attacks on Pakistani destinations, the attacked land has announced retaliation. Pakistan’s prime minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a reaction to the Indian attack on Pakistani goals after a session of the security cabinet. Pakistan reserves the right to react at a time and in a way of his choice, according to a message. “The Pakistani armed forces have been properly authorized to take appropriate measures,” it said.

Previously, India had attacked several destinations in Pakistan and Pakistanically controlled part of Kashmir at night – in response to a terrorist attack in the unrestru region around two weeks ago.

The Indian army will react to the shelling in an appropriate manner. The control line is considered a de facto limit and shares Kashmir between the two nuclear powers.

The Indian Ministry of Defense in Neu-Delhi announced that the armed forces had attacked several destinations in Pakistan and in Pakistanically controlled part of Kashmir, “from which terrorist attacks against India” had assumed. The goals are “terrorist infrastructure”.

According to the Indian information, nine goals were attacked. “Pakistani military facilities were not the goal.” The Ministry of Defense called its own actions “targeted, moderate and not escalating”. India practiced considerable restraint when choosing the goals and the method of execution.

Pakistani intelligence circles and Pakistan’s army had previously reported that the cities of Kotli and Muzaffarabad in the Pakistani part of the Himalaya region of Kashmir and in the city of Bahawalpur in the province of Punjab were the goal of the attacks. A mosque was hit in Bahawalpur.

Pakistan closed its airspace for 48 hours after the attacks from India. This was announced by a spokesman for the civil aviation authority. The flight operations of the airports Islamabad and Lahore are also discontinued until further notice.

UN Secretary General António Guterres showed “very concerned” after the attacks. “The world cannot afford a military confrontation between India and Pakistan,” he said, according to a notification of his office on Tuesday (local time). He called on both nuclear powers for military reluctance.

US President Donald Trump expressed his hope that the conflict between the two nuclear powers will not escalate. “I just hope that it will end very quickly,” Trump said at an event in the White House with a view of the attack.

Since the attack around two weeks ago, both countries have overwhelmed punishments, have had, among other things, citizens of the other side and reduced diplomatic relationships. Experts particularly classified India’s decision as serious to suspend the so-called Indus water contract with the neighbor.

The contract regulates the water use of both sides of the Indus and its tributaries. Islamabad called the suspension of the contract an act of war and threatened with corresponding countermeasures.

The Kashmir region in the Himalayas is divided between Pakistan and India-but both claim the whole area for themselves. The origins of the conflict go back to the colonial period. In 1947 the British released the Indian subcontinent into independence and divided it. In addition to the predominantly Hindu India, the new state of Pakistan for Muslims emerged from the division. The violent division continues to feed a bitter rivalry to this day. Since their independence, both countries have waged three wars against each other, two of them around cashmere.
