Fifth win by Pinkelnig: “She’s almost unbeatable”

Eva Pinkelnig is the measure of all things in the ski jumping circuit. In heavy snowfall, the Vorarlberger won her fifth win of the season in the second individual competition in Zao (Jpn). “It’s a Dream. Unbelievable, I’m speechless and impressed by myself”said the 34-year-old, who stayed ahead of Germany’s Selina Freitag by 1.3 points.

For Pinkelnig, who confidently won the New Year’s Tour, this time extended to four competitions, it was the twelfth podium place in the 13th competition of the season. In the overall World Cup, her lead over second-placed Katharina Althaus (D) has grown to 263 points. In the hour of success, the former teacher expressed her gratitude: “It’s unbelievable how many people work so that I can sit on the bar with a grin and accelerate freely. I’m just perfect at the moment to really complete it.” Chiara Kreuzer, who finished third in the first individual competition in Zao on Friday, finished tenth yesterday, right behind Sara Marita Kramer. On Saturday, the Pinkelnig/Kreuzer duo also won the super team competition, which was held for the first time. ÖSV head coach Harald Rodlauer was correspondingly satisfied: “After this Japan tour we can be really proud.” There was special praise for Pinkelnig: “Impressive, unbelievable. An outstanding achievement. You can just see the confidence she has. At the moment she is almost unbeatable.”

About a month before the World Championships in Planica, the men’s form is showing an upward trend: In Zakopane (Poland), Stefan Kraft jumped to third place behind winner Halvor Egner Granerud (North) and Dawid Kubacki (Poland). Second at half time Jan Hörl (5th), Daniel Tschofenig (9th), Clemens Aigner (10th), Michael Hayböck (12th), Manuel Fettner (15th) and Clemens Leitner (24th) completed a strong red- white-red team result.

This was also the day before, when Austria won the team competition ahead of Poland in the line-up of Tschofenig, Hayböck, Fettner and Kraft.
