“I don’t expect him to think too much. He’s an excellent goalkeeper,” said coach Julian Nagelsmann shortly before the game at DAZN. “He has no reason to be nervous.”

Sommer was signed by the German record champions for an estimated eight million euros on Thursday due to the month-long absence of national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (broken leg), he came from league rivals Borussia Mönchengladbach. During the warm-up, Sommer was greeted with applause by the Bayern fans who had traveled with them. Thomas Müller has to go to the bench first, with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting playing up front.

“It’s a decision based on the fact that he performed very well before the break,” Nagelsmann said of Choupo-Moting. “Thomas is extremely relaxed about the situation.” Müller is an “extremely important component” of the team.

National player Timo Werner did not make it in time for Leipzig, after his syndesmosis ligament rupture, the German national team’s center forward is not yet in the starting line-up for Saxony.
