The German cross-country skiers have achieved a World Cup podium in the relay for the first time in over six years. Made up of Laura Gimmler, Katharina Hennig, Pia Fink and Sofie Krehl, the German quartet was only beaten by the winning relay team from Norway after 4×7.5 kilometers on Sunday.

Krehl, who stepped in for Coletta Rydzek at short notice, even had a chance of winning as the last runner, but ended up behind Silje Theodorsen. The highly rated Swedes did not get past third place.

The last time there was a relay podium for the German women in the World Cup was in January 2017 in Ulricehamn, Sweden. Hennig was already there in second place behind Norway, with Stefanie Böhler, Sandra Ringwald and Victoria Carl also starting. Last year, Germany also amazed at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Led by Hennig and Carl, there was silver in the relay, the duo even won Olympic gold in the team sprint. The highlight of the season this winter is the World Championships, which begin on February 21 in Planica, Slovenia.
