The tournament will kick off in Mayakoba on the Mexican Riviera Maya. As usual, the series financed by Saudi Arabia will be played over three rounds or 54 holes. A total of 405 million dollars in prize money will be distributed at the 14 planned events this year. The tournament in Mexico on the El Camaleon golf course is about 20 million for the individual and 5 million for the team competition. Wiesberger forms a team with Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell, Martin Kaymer from Germany and Englishman Richard Bland. The 37-year-old Austrian has been preparing for tournaments on the Arabian Peninsula in recent weeks. “All in all, my game is in good condition,” summed up Wiesberger, who had achieved his best result last year at the LIV final in Jeddah (Rsa) with eighth place.

LIV Golf is considered controversial due to its Saudi Arabian funding. Tour CEO Greg Norman also wooed stars like Dustin Johnson, who took the LIV overall victory last year, Bubba Watson, Cameron Smith, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed and Bryson DeChambeau for enormous sums. The LIV golfers have therefore suspended the traditional PGA and World Tour series.

Even golf figureheads like Tiger Woods or Rory McIlroy were not on good terms with their “renegade” colleagues.
