Cross-country skier Laura Gimmler was eliminated as the best German sprinter at the World Championships in Slovenia in the semi-finals.
The 29-year-old was left behind in her semi-final run in Planica and had no chance of reaching the final of the top six runners. Gimmler had hoped for a surprise with fourth place in the qualification and recent good World Cup results.
Coletta Rydzek and team sprint Olympic champion Victoria Carl were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Carl clashed with her Polish competitor Izabela Marcisz in the 1.4 kilometer race. “The Pole tried to pass me on the outside where there was no space and kicked my cane off,” said Carl. As a result, she had to get on her knees and ultimately had no chance. For Janosch Brugger, who started as the only German man, it was also over after the quarter-finals. Sofie Krehl was already eliminated in the qualification.
