After the break with José Néstor Pekerman, the Venezuelan Football Federation announced that it will take four years for “the entire World Cup cycle to complete.”
The Venezuelan Federation of Soccer (FVF) announced that the Argentine Fernando “Bocha” Batista will be the new technical director of the senior team after the break with José Néstor Pekerman.
“I am here to announce who will be in charge of our Selection: It will be Fernando Batista”, said Jorge Gimenezpresident of the Federation in a press conference.
Batista’s contract, 52 years old and who was Pekerman’s right hand in “Vinotinto”, will be for four years so that “he completes the entire World Cup cycle (…) to fulfill our dream” of going to a World Cup, added the director of the FVF.
Giménez declined to give details about the exact reasons for Pekerman’s departure from the Venezuelan team, whose reins he had assumed in November 2021.
“That the respective lawyers do their job (…) there was a breach of contract and new contracts were generated by the Venezuelan Federation” for the new coach, Giménez explained when asked about the reasons for the departure of Pekerman and if there was any breach of any of the two parties.
During this week, versions circulated in various media outlets indicating that the experienced coach of Argentina in the 2006 World Cup, and of Colombia from 2012 to 2018, would leave “Vinotinto” due to alleged problems with his agent, Pascual Lezcano, but also for breaches of the Federation.
