The Department of Players Safety banned Romig for three games for hitting him with a stick and fined him 750 euros. What happened? Romig received two checks from opponents on Tuesday evening immediately after the end of the second period, in which Bozen increased their lead against Linz from 1-0 to 4-0. Ryan Culkin’s second check went to the Linzer’s neck area, whereupon Romig turned around and aimed a blow at Culkin’s neck. Already in the game Romig was given a large penalty (5 plus playing time). His opponent was spared a punishment.
Romig is missing from Linz in the two remaining games of the quarter-final series on Friday and Sunday. Should there be a game 7 in Bolzano on Tuesday, he would also be missing there. Should Linz win twice, Romig would also have to watch the first semi-final game (the opponent would be Salzburg). Should Linz drop out, it would mean the end of the season for the native of Vienna. He might even take another game of suspension into the coming season.
Romig has scored three of Linz’s five goals in the four games in the quarter-final series against HCB Südtirol.
