The Olympic bronze medalist in the discus throw is currently preparing for the season in Tenerife. The planned start of the competition year is mid-May at events in Schwechat. The absolute highlight of the season is the Outdoor World Championships in August in Budapest. After tenth place at the World Championships in Eugene and nine at the European Championships in Munich 2022, the Upper Austrian wants to get back into the medal ranks.

The discus world elite is currently meeting on Tenerife in the best conditions. World champion Kristjan Ceh from Slovenia, Olympic silver medalist Simon Pettersson from Sweden and Lithuanian Andrius Gudzius are also currently working there. Weißhaidinger manages around 70 throws per field training session, and speed training is also on the agenda.

“Lukas seems very focused and hungry. So far everything is going according to plan in training,” said coach Gregor Högler. The current training camp is scheduled until May 8th, Weißhaidinger was already ten days on the island in March and made a total of 300 litters. The intensity has now been increased. “The more I’m allowed to throw, the better I usually feel. But of course I’m happy when the competition season starts,” said the 31-year-old, who finished second in the Diamond League final in Zurich last year .
