The soccer superstars top the Forbes list of the highest paid athletes in the world. According to the US magazine Forbes, the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo is the world’s top earner after his transfer to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia with an income of 136 million dollars (123.85 million euros). Behind them are Argentinian Lionel Messi at $130m and Frenchman Kylian Mbappe at $120m, both from Paris Saint-Germain.
The football trio is followed by US basketball player LeBron James (119.5 million) and Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez (110 million). Thanks to the new LIV-Tour, two golfers, Dustin Johnson (107 million) in sixth place and Phil Mickelson (106 million) in seventh place, also appear in the top field. NBA basketball players Stephen Curry (100.4 million) and Kevin Durant (89.1 million) as well as tennis pro Roger Federer (95.1 million), who has already retired, complete the top ten.
The income determined by Forbes includes salaries, prize money or appearance money as well as sponsorship income and license fees.
