The 31-year-old will start working as a police officer in the Murau district inspection in the middle of the year. “I’m looking forward to a new chapter in my life,” said Siebenhofer.

“It will be an important addition for us in the police force,” emphasized Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) in a short speech. “Ramona has played an important role in the women’s team over the years,” said Ski Austria President Roswitha Stadlober. “She will continue to follow her path with determination – and who knows where this path will lead.”

As the main reason for her step, Siebenhofer tearfully stated that she no longer had the full motivation and conviction for professional sport. She felt that at the World Cup final in Soldeu in March. “Even with a little distance, I have to say that I’m no longer willing to subordinate my whole life to skiing,” said Siebenhofer, who among other things, her partner, her uncle Werner, “who was my first coach”, her sponsors and her club UPS Krakauebene explicitly thanked.

No luck at big events

Siebenhofer made her World Cup debut on December 28, 2009 in Lienz in a giant slalom. All of her seven podium finishes came in downhill. In January 2019 she celebrated two victories in Cortina d’Ampezzo within 24 hours. Although the Styrian from Krakaudorf had her strengths in the fast disciplines, she acted as an all-rounder and also competed in giant slalom, alpine combined and even some slaloms.

Siebenhofer had no luck at major events. She ended her career “unfinished”, so to speak, without winning a medal. Two Olympic Games and four participations in the World Cup are on her sporting curriculum vitae, at the World Championships she was close at least a few times with two fourth and three fifth places. In Aare, she missed the 2019 combination bronze by just four hundredths of a second.
