Third place could be fixed for LASK on Sunday with a win in Klagenfurt (2:30 p.m.) – and thus European Cup group games until the winter break. The goal set before the season has practically been reached, but the hunger is far from satisfied. Three points behind Sturm Graz and six behind table leaders Salzburg, LASK can aim for the Champions League without pressure – in contrast to their competitors, who have something to lose and are therefore under much more pressure. What speaks for the LASK:
Form: “We’re in the flow,” said Robert Zulj after the 4:0 in the Raiffeisen Arena against Klagenfurt. Even a weaker performance was enough for the ultimately sovereign victory. “My boys are in good form at the moment,” agreed the coach Dietmar Kuhbauer to. LASK has scored eleven points in the master group so far, two more than Sturm Graz and Salzburg, and therefore everything is in their own hands in the race for second place.
The team spirit: “We look from game to game.” That’s the mantra, no matter who you ask at LASK about the chances of the last five rounds. “If you calculate too much in football, you’re doing something wrong,” explained Peter Michorl and remembered the previous season. “We always calculated what was enough for the division to be above the line.” In the end it didn’t add up.
Don’t calculate, win and stay realistic, that’s what the people of Linz have now vowed to do. “It’s absolutely not a free game,” said Michorl about the task on Sunday in Klagenfurt. Zulj also said shortly after the 4-0 win last Sunday “that we have to play better in Klagenfurt”. He sums up the great plus of the athletes: “Everyone subordinates everything to the common success.”
The fans: The atmosphere in the new Raiffeisen Arena gave an additional boost, so far LASK has played the perfect one-two with the fans. After trailing 1-0, Sturm was defeated 2-1. No one was concerned when they were less united against Klagenfurt before the break last Sunday. Tomorrow the fans will travel to Klagenfurt in a black and white convoy and will probably make the game at the Wörthersee Stadium a “home game” – for the dream of the Champions League.
