First-time winner Remco Evenepoel (Soudal) defended the pink jersey of the overall leader and avoided a mass crash a few kilometers from the finish. The Belgian made a strong impression in the opening time trial on Saturday. The 23-year-old road world champion beat his rival Primoz Roglic (Jumbo) by 43 seconds over 20 kilometers.
