Julio César Falcioni became the new coach of Banfield after the departure of Javier Sanguinettiwho left his position at the club from the south of Greater Buenos Aires on Sunday night, one day after the defeat of “Taladro” against Colón 2-0 in Santa Fe.
The former coach of Independiente, Boca, All Boys, among others, will have his fourth cycle as coach of the institution: the first between 2003 and 2005, the second in the 2009 and 2010 season, where he won the 2009 Apertura; and the third between 2016 and 2020 before going to “Red”.
The most successful era at the helm of the team was in 2009, when he became champion of the Apertura tournament with footballers such as Walter Erviti, the Uruguayans Sebastián Fernández and Santiago Silva, and Cristian Luchetti.
In his first stage in 2005 he qualified for the “Drill” for the first time in the Copa Libertadores as the best placed in the general table of the 2003/04 season.
However, his longest stage was between 2016 and 2020, where he achieved 46.3% of the points and in which he helped the club to escape relegation and then have a cushion of points for the averages.
