American Football: Double pack in November: Two NFL games in Frankfurt

A double pack for Frankfurt: In November, two NFL games will take place in the Main metropolis. The reigning Super Bowl champion is also honored.

The Super Bowl champion from Kansas City plays against the Miami Dolphins on November 5th in Frankfurt am Main. A week later, the New England Patriots meet the Indianapolis Colts in the Eintracht Frankfurt stadium.

On Wednesday, the NFL confirmed the rumors that had been circulating for months that Frankfurt would host two main round games in the world’s best football league.

“The encounters in Germany will offer fans two extremely exciting games in November,” said NFL Germany boss Alexander Steinforth, according to the announcement. The Kansas City Chiefs around star quarterback Patrick Mahomes won the title in February against the Philadelphia Eagles.

First Germany game last fall

The first main round game in Germany was the duel between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Seattle Seahawks in Munich last fall. The interest in the game and the atmosphere in the FC Bayern Munich arena made a lasting impression on players like quarterback superstar Tom Brady and NFL officials like league boss Roger Goodell.

In addition to Frankfurt and Munich, other NFL International Series games will be held in London and Mexico City until 2025. There will be three games in England this year: The Jacksonville Jaguars will open the International Games on October 1 with a game against the Atlanta Falcons at London’s Wembley Stadium. The Buffalo Bills take on Jacksonville at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on October 8th. And on October 15, the Tennessee Titans will play the Baltimore Ravens, also at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Marcel Dabo from Reutlingen was part of the training squad for the Indianapolis Colts last season. The defender came to the National Football League through the international talent development program and wants to recommend himself for a permanent squad with the Colts in the summer.

“A great honor”

Frankfurt’s head of sports, Mike Josef, reacted enthusiastically. “It is a great honor for the city of Frankfurt am Main to be able to host two international NFL games in the stadium in November of this year. The games make Frankfurt even more attractive as a sports city,” said the SPD politician in a statement. “The city of Frankfurt and the region are looking forward to the two major events. The fact that the NFL is coming to Frankfurt is a great enrichment, especially for sport and the regional economy.”
