Oliver Glasner has returned to the cabin area as a happy man. When the coach of the German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt served his red card suspension in a VIP box together with Ms. Bettina in the home game against Mainz on Saturday, his team’s losing streak came to an end. “Now I don’t have to answer any more questions about the winless series,” said the Upper Austrian after the clear 3-0 victory.
“We see the goal called Europe”
“We’re in the tunnel. We’re inside and we can see the destination behind, which is called Europe,” said Glasner. After all the recent turbulence – dismissal, angry speech, separation at the end of the season – the 48-year-old was just relieved to once again write positive sporting headlines in front of 50,000 spectators. “We’ve overtaken Mainz once. Now it’s time to keep our focus up until June 3rd.” Then the cup final against RB Leipzig will take place in Berlin.
Kiss photo as a treat at the press conference
The head coach then spoke to the media himself, after the decision had been announced he seemed much more relaxed than in the past few weeks. Glasner was confronted with video footage showing Glasner kissing his wife in the box. “You can’t even do anything behind the mirror glass. Luckily you didn’t see everything,” he joked with a subtle grin.
successor open
While his team is again cautiously looking towards international places, the question of a successor is still completely open, according to sporting director Markus Krösche. “We didn’t deal with that at all. We had so many things this week that we had to set the course for Eintracht Frankfurt. That’s not an issue for us at the moment,” said Krösche on Sky.
Instead of the boss, his assistant Michael Angerschmid stood on the sidelines on Saturday. It was precisely in this situation that ten Bundesliga games ended without a win for the Hessians. “It was a great performance. Congratulations to the players on how they handled the whole situation. We’re really happy,” said Glasner, who also explicitly congratulated Angerschmid’s coaching team.
