With its new home jersey, FC Bayern can look back on a special moment in the club’s history. A name is missing on the shirt. Talks are going on.
With its new home jersey, FC Bayern Munich wants to commemorate a milestone in its successful club history. The shirt consists of a white base tone, which is decorated with strong, deep red sleeves. According to the club’s announcement, it’s a reference to the home shirt worn by the players in 1965 after promotion to the Bundesliga.
“The colors red and white have been with me all my life. With this traditional design, the new home jersey stands for the success story of FC Bayern Munich,” said current captain Thomas Müller. The inside of the collar contains the lettering “Red & White for a lifetime”, which is intended to complement the “Mia san mia” in the neck.
“Anyone who thinks of FC Bayern immediately has images in red and white in mind. Even as a child, my room was decorated in these colors and it’s a dream to be able to wear them on the pitch,” said player Lina Magull. “The new jersey combines history and elegance – and we want to do justice to these colors.”
Criticism for sponsor Qatar Airways
The lettering of sponsor Qatar Airways is not visible on the sleeve of the new jersey, as was the case recently. The airline has been a sponsor at FC Bayern since the summer of 2018, which has already caused a lot of criticism. The contract expires this year.
“The home jersey for the 2023/2024 season went into production in late summer. The airline logo was not integrated because no decision had been made about extending the contract that was in place until the end of June,” FC Bayern said when asked by dpa.
FC Bayern is currently in talks with the company from Doha. The association is examining whether it can manage further cooperation that meets both the economic goals and social responsibility. CEO Oliver Kahn recently announced this in “Sport Bild”.
