His brother Daniel took an excellent sixth place in the same race.
After just a few meters, a duo consisting of Bernhard Neumann from Vienna and Tobias Rattinger pulled away from the rest of the field. Two laps before the end, the man from Steyr increased the pace and was able to pull away from his rival. After 8:54.07 minutes he crossed the finish line and thus secured the third state championship title in a row over the 3000 m obstacle. Daniel Rattinger also ran a spirited race from the start, was able to improve towards the end and make up positions. With a time of 9:39.01 minutes, he finished sixth and was able to improve his best time by 15 seconds. For Tobias Rattinger, the state championship title is equivalent to qualifying for the European Athletics Team Championships on June 20th in Poland.
